If you have a recurring weight problem, you have probably faced a number of diets in the past. As with any diet, your body will need some getting used to when you start phasing in the lemon diet. For plenty of lemonade dieters, the initial discomfort at having to shift to a liquid diet usually passes away after a few days. But if you still find the lemon diet uncomfortable, here are some mistakes that might be bogging you down.
- Skipping on the ingredients. The basic component for the lemon diet is around 11 to 12 glasses of lemonade each day. What most people do not know, however, is that this is a carefully formulated diet that you need to stick to, no matter what. Each glass of lemonade has a hundred calories from maple syrup, 9 calories from the lemonade mix, and one calorie from the cayenne pepper. Only by drinking 11 to 12 glasses of the lemonade will you be able to get enough calories to prevent you from feeling tired and sluggish all day.
- Not using organic ingredients. Stanley Burroughs, the original founder for the lemonade diet, has made it clear – use grade B maple syrup, organic lemon juice, and fresh cayenne pepper. There are plenty of substitutes for maple, lemon juice, and even cayenne pepper these days come in seasoning mixes. Only organic ingredients, however, can guarantee you with a healthy lemonade diet. Artificial ingredients can have higher or lower calorie content, and usually do not have the vitamins and minerals that you need for the lemonade diet.
- Cheating. We’ve all been there – the point where another glass of lemonade feels like it’s going to make you vomit. This, however, is no reason to cheat, especially since the feeling will eventually pass as you get used to the lemonade diet, usually after two or three days. Those two to three days may be rather uncomfortable for you, but the benefits are many. With a successfully implemented lemonade diet, you will be able to lose as much as ten pounds, and get rid of the accumulated toxins in your body.
- Using other ingredients. If it’s not lemon, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper, it’s not the lemonade diet. One of the common mistakes that people on the lemon diet make is thinking that an orange can substitute for a lemon when making the juice drink. Wrong. Changing the essential ingredients in the lemonade diet will simply invalidate your diet. A lemon has specific nutrients that other substitutes do not have. For instance, a lemon contains potassium, phosphorous, sodium, iron, selenium, manganese, calcium, magnesium, dietary fiber, copper, zinc, and vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, E, niacin, and folate.
- Not planning enough. Finally, one of the biggest and most avoidable mistakes when going into the lemonade diet – not planning enough. When you get the lemon for your lemon diet, you don’t just make lemonades. You should also plan your schedule, your eating habits, and your exercise routine. Make sure that you bring enough lemon juice for work, that you stay out of the lunch area to avoid being tempted into ordering a burger, and that you schedule the diet near weekends or holidays as much as possible, since you will need rest as your body undergoes the detoxification process that the lemonade diet induces. Make sure that you start your lemon diet on a time when there is as little distraction as possible, so that you can concentrate on the diet.
As with anything else, you can make mistakes while in taking the lemonade diet. By being aware of the usual mistakes that people commit in the diet, however, getting a successful detox and losing weight through the lemonade diet is possible.

I read somewhere you can eat raw vegetables not alot but like celery, true?
@joann: no that’s not true. you can only have raw vegetables in the easing out phase.
Why can’t you have a cup of coffee without anything in the a.m.?
Is it ok if we use organic grade A maple syrup?? I looked at my local grocery stores and all they had was grade A no B. So will it be the same to use A instead of B?
@Jessica…. you can buy Grade B maple syrup from a health food store
is it ok to use a lime instead of a lemon? and also i read somewhere that you should eat raw vegetables during the diet. is that true?
@Patty: It’s okay to use lime instead of lemon but it’s better to use lemon instead. No, you cannot eat raw vegetables during the diet but only after the cleanse itself when you are easing out.
I have done the Lemonade Diet several times in my life with great results. My questin is: when on the diet, you flush the kidneys..will this rid the kidneys of kidney stones if you have them.
Is it guaranteed that you will lose at 20 pounds?
Sorry, typo. What I meant to say is, is it guaranteed that you will lose 20 pounds?
I am very new to this although I have heard many good things about the master clenser, I NEED to know if distilled water is the only water used.
Also does the book give instructions on how to be successful @ easing out of the Cleanse into a healthier less toxifying lifestyle?
@Jacqueline: The book give detailed instructions to how to easing out but for a healthier and less toxifying lifestyle, you might want to consider following an alkaline diet at http://thealkalinediet.org/course.html. It would be good to use distilled water only.
Can I still take my daily vitamins while on the Lemonade diet?
@Sharma: No, it’s advised not to take daily vitamins while on the cleanse. Most vitamins are just useless stuff..
I read the book and wondered very much if should should avoid the salt water that is required daily before drinking the lemon juice if you have high blood pressure
Ok so I am just a little confused on the Salt Water Flush and Tea. When do we drink these items, how much do we drink of these items and what kind of tea can we drink? Can somebody please help me with these items. I am very excited about getting started, but I want to make sure I do it right!
@Hannah: You can drink both of them, salt water flush in the morning and laxative tea in the evening. The Celtic Organic Sea Salt and the smooth move laxative tea. You can get your supplies from http://bit.ly/mastercleansesupplies.
sorry to sound stupid, what is distilled water?
How about enemas? Can I take an enema instead of a laxative or with the laxative? If so, which one do you recommend?
I am skipping on the salt water and/or laxative tea. Comments?
@Carmen B. Plz do not skip.. It is important to rid the body of those toxins, and the salt bath & tea are excellent for that.

I really can’t find Organic Grade B maple syrup. So can I use the Pure Grade A Dark Amber Maple Syrup instead? And is it ok if I buy a bottle of 100% Lemon Juice (from concentrated) and use that for the lemonade instead of squeezing half of a lemon for every glass? And how many glasses of lemonade, salt water, herbal tea should I drink in a day?
